Everyone’s a friend for Deepika Padukone

Everyone’s a friend for Deepika Padukone: Deepika Padukone says that she has only “good friends” in the industry and no foes. Whether it’s Sonam Kapoor, her once-rumoured antagonist, or her ex Ranbir Kapoor, she’s on good terms with everyone, pretty much like a Karan Johar movie. “I have no grudges against Sonam. It’s the media that’s creating the hype. Karan’s show is not to be taken seriously. He asks tongue-in-cheek questions, but it is all done in good humour.”

While she has many “good friends”, Deepika confesses that none of her colleagues have become “best friends”. “I am so busy that I do not have time to find a best friend in the industry. Moreover, whenever we are working, we meet each other frequently, converse and then as soon as the film is over, we don’t get to see each other,” she says.

Deepika has now moved on from starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar to the up and coming Imran Khan in Kunal Kohli’s Break Ke Baad. This coming-of-age relationship movie has taught her a lesson in real life too, Deepika confides. “I realised that sometimes getting some space can actually help people give their relationship a second try. The concept, though, is new to me as I’m from a conservative family where elders have been happily married to one person without ever wanting a break,” says the actor.

Does that mean her much-hyped break-up with Ranbir Kapoor might just have a second chance? Deepika doesn’t take the bait and says that “move on” is her new mantra. “If a relationship has turned sour, then move on. We all have the strength to control our feelings, leave behind the negativity we experienced and move on,” she says, adding, “Maintaining a relationship requires sacrifices at both ends and a comfort level to carry it forward. If it still does not work, then you can’t give up on life. We need to attend to so many other things. It’s important to keep ourselves busy by taking interest in our work. Time is a great healer.”

This, of course, brings us to the topic of UB scion Sidhartha Mallya. But Deepika is wary of talking about her present relationship. “I will not comment on this,” she says.

Undaunted, we remind her that Sidhartha accompanied her for an eye check-up recently. “I have my glasses. I don’t need to go for an eye check-up now. Things were blown out of proportion by the media,” she replies with a smile. Guess he is just a “very good” friend then.
